AN INTRODUCTION TO A NEW CULTURAL GROUP IN DELIA, Alberta!
We are a group of Métis/Michif and residents of Delia who have joined together to form the “ Hand Hills Michif Cultural Society”.
Its mandate and goals are;
To promote the Métis Culture and Heritage through education, history, visual and performing arts at events/gatherings.
One of our goals is to acquire lands and/or a building for a cultural centre.
One of our policies is to always have No Drugs, No Alcohol, events.
Most of the Métis involved have had experience in planning and carrying out large Métis gatherings and social evenings.
The events have always been open to other cultures and all ages,and are family oriented.
At present we have formed a Society for the above purposes and would like to invite anyone of any culture to join with us to achieve those goals.
The Delia Museum already has a Métis collection on show.
Our second event was the “Delia Michif Gathering” that was held on July 24,25,26,27th 2008 in Delia.
